Our History

Our History

Esmeralda Golf Course is one of four city golf courses owned by the City of Spokane. Established in 1956 it has hosted some of golf’s most prestigious and historical tournaments including the Ladies US Open, Senior PGA Championship and Ladies events. Legendary names like: Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazan, Patty Berg and many others have played Esmeralda.

The golf course was nicknamed “Easy Ezzy” because when it opened it had no trees, no water hazards and only five sand bunkers. Now some 65 years later Esmeralda has over 2500 mature trees some 60 feet high and is a Spokane favorite but nobody calls it Easy Ezzy anymore. Founded by the Athletic Round Table Esmeralda got its name from a tournament that garnered national attention from some of the premier players in the US.

The company employees three Assistant Golf Professionals, staffing for the Pro Shop, Outside Services and the Restaurant. “I have a passion and love for the business of golf but I never get tired of is the opportunity to work with someone who is struggling with their game and see the progress and enjoyment that comes after a golf lesson.”

Rob believes that golf needs to continue to evolve and change to keep pace with technology and business trends which is why he was the first to bring eight new Golfboards to the Spokane Area and in 2019 has expanded the single rider experience by adding four new Golf Cycles. Because of this Esmeralda Golf Course has routinely been on the Spokane News stations as adding something new and engaging to the golf market. Another addition for 2020 will be a lighted Driving Range with weekly contests and games for the family and friends on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
“During the summer months it can get very hot and humid so our goal is to provide an entertaining outlet at night when it’s cooler and more comfortable to bring together family and friends.”
